Emergency Shelter
The Women’s Resource Center offers temporary emergency housing for adults and children who live in the New River Valley and are fleeing intimate partner violence. Our shelter is a comfortable, attractive home with facilities for 26 women and children. We also provide shelter for men and LGBTQ+ individuals.
Families who leave the emergency shelter and desire a supportive living environment also have the option of applying for transitional housing apartments before stepping out on their own.
To request emergency shelter or for more information, please call our 24/7 hotline at 540.639.1123.
Cornerstone
In addition to the emergency shelter option, the Women’s Resource Center offers transitional housing for adults and children fleeing domestic violence. Families who leave the emergency shelter and desire a supportive living environment have the option of applying for transitional housing apartments before stepping out on their own. The transitional program, Cornerstone, includes seven apartments in a community-style setting.
At Cornerstone, staff members work with residents to identify barriers, set goals, and take steps to achieve their aspirations. Counseling, support groups, community resource assistance, legal advocacy, and transportation also are offered to residents.
Children who stay at Cornerstone receive one-on-one attention with our staff. The WRC Children’s Program staff assess the needs of each child. During their stay, staff provide therapeutic, educational, and recreational services.
